Q. Will it be cold?

A. The million dollar question! Skye is located off the west coast of Scotland and so experiences very high rainfall and very high winds, at any time of the year. You may be lucky enough to visit during one of our good weather spells (normally April-June) but we'd advise you not to expect it! It is sensible to bring warm clothing and waterproofs regardless of the time of year. The cabins and camp kitchens are heated by wood burning stoves so you will need to know how to light and maintain a fire. We also provide plenty of extra blankets and hot water bottles in the cabins so there is no reason to be cold.

Q. Will I be able to cook?

A. There are 2 shared camp kitchens on site, equipped with gas burners and all the pots, pans crockery and utensils you might need. One of the kitchens also has an oven. Kettles are stove top rather than electric. There are cool boxes available for your perishables, which we can provide cool blocks for or you can buy ice locally. There are no cooking facilities inside your cabin.

Q. Are facilities shared?

A. Similar to a campsite, all the facilities are shared but Skye Eco Bells is very small and there are only a maximum of up to 8 people staying on site at any one time.

Q. Can I charge my phone?

A. Yes. Although there is no electricity on site, each cabin is provided with a Jackery Power Station which enables you to charge phones, tablets, cameras and laptops. It will not run items like hairdryers etc.

Q. Can I bring kids? Can I bring additional guests?

A. Each cabin sleeps 2 people in a double bed. Kids over 12 years old may accompany an adult but the cabin occupancy must not exceed 2 people. We are licensed for 2 people per cabin and as such cannot accept additional guests regardless of age. We cannot place extra beds in the cabins and cannot accept children who co-sleep with parents if the number of guests will exceed 2. Parties exceeding 2 people will need to book 2 cabins.

Q. Can I bring my dog?

A. Yes! We love dogs! We welcome up to 2 well behaved dogs per cabin by prior arrangement. We have horses, free range hens and an elderly cat living on site so ask that all dogs are kept on a lead whilst on site to keep our animals safe. We charge £10 (per visit, not per night or per dog). Just add your pet on to your booking and you will be charged accordingly.

Q. Are there shops or restaurants nearby?

A. The closest village to Skye Eco Bells is Dunvegan, approximately 4 miles away. In the village there is a small but well stocked general store where you can buy food to make your own meals. There is also a fruit/veg shop, a bakery, a petrol station and post office. If you would rather eat out, Dunvegan has several options: The Old School, The Dunvegan, Blas and Dunvegan Community Cafe. See our Attractions page for more details about eating out.

Q. Are there midges?

A. The short answer is Yes! This is Scotland and midges are a part of the landscape, however they are only really active on Skye between June and September (some years might be a little earlier). If the weather is hot and breezy then they really are not a problem. They really like warm and humid conditions with no wind. You can buy some fairly effective midge repellents such as Smidge but the best protection really is to cover up exposed skin and use a midge net which you can buy locally for around £5 and remember to close your windows and doors.

Q. Is firewood provided?

A. We provide a large basket of firewood in all the cabins for the wood burning stoves. All the cabins and the bell tent have an outdoor firepit so feel free to bring your own firewood or charcoal for fires/BBQ's.

Q. Are there any EV charging points nearby?

A. There are local EV charging points in Dunvegan village carpark, at Stein in Waternish, Skye Skyns in Waternish, the Three Chimneys restaurant but please check your app for availability/compatibility of these and chargers further afield on Skye.
